not Goldar and Scorpina but their Sentai counterparts were already married. There was however an original plan to have Goldar and Scorpina start dating in the 2nd season of Mighty Morphin but this got scrapped.

No they were never married. Their Sentai counterparts were and actually had a child in the end.

I never really seen them as an item. At least where the story is concerned. Since they do look the part. Its just we have no evidence that they are. And the Sentai counterparts doesn't matter when it comes to the show's continuity.

Season 1 Goldar seemed more like a brownoser than love interest for Rita.

Yes, this plot point should never have been omited! The American Sentai counterparts should have had a child too in the end.

MMPR didn't feel the need to just use Sentai plots just because. This would have been a redundant storyline to adapt.
