I'm a few episodes behind. I noticed the zords look like things or people in the Rangers lives. As this been explained? If not it seems kind of weird.

I believe that it has been explained. It has to do with the Ninja Prism somehow creating them from the memories of the rangers. I could be wrong. :o

basically this is pretty much it. It's like Preston and his magic his magic abilities became a new ability because of the Prism.
