DinoThunder would have been so much better with the original Edward Payne character. The last thing PR needed was the return of Tommy. The best parts of DinoThunder didn't include Tommy. He really felt forced in his role . Payne as a new character wouuld hqve made more sense.

I liked that they decided to honor the continuity of Power Rangers and bring Tommy back. I liked that the tried to come up with a backstory to what he had been working on since Turbo. They did a better job with that than FR. Mostly because they had a whole season! DT would lose something without Doctor O.

I'm not saying it couldn't have still been good. Really we will never know the difference it would have made. Bringing Tommy back was a no brainer though. And was handled very well.

Except for how Disney was too cheap to bring Frank back for the full season. And we got the stuck in suit crap.

That was JDF's decision. He wanted to have time to spend with his family and tend to his business in the US. It was part of the deal for his return. Terms set by his side of the negotiating table.

They were better off bringing Tommy back. Its not like the rest or the season wasn't brand new.

Tommy was handled very well. His absence allowed them to focus on the newer Rangers in the middle of the season. We got plenty of Tommy in his new role as mentor.

I would have been fine either way. Having Tommy return was cool though.

I liked having Tommy back for a year and then dinosaur theme. It was no MMPR though. But fine for what it was. I'm just glad they didn't have Kat come back as his wife. Since I like Tommy and Kim together the best.

It was just a back up plan in case they couldn't get JDF to return. I much rather have Tommy as mentor.

I don't think there would have been the same excitement with a new mentor. Certainly not going in.

We don't know enough about Edward Payne. I am glad we never found out since he sounds boring. Not that I can say that for sure.

We got a similar character in Hartford anyway. At least thats how I always have imagined what Payne's role has been.

I think JDF returning to DinoThunder was a major event for the show and would not have wanted it undone.

Tommy needs to come back. Power Rangers needed a hook to bring fans back after Ninja Storm. Which was a weird season .

DinoThunder could have been better. But having Tommy back was a positive.

Tommy's return was great! I don't regret not getting Payne. But I guess we wouldn't have known the difference.

If the JDF thing fell through like it looked to at first, people would have been disappointed with Payne. If no one knew Tommy was originall supposed to come back , things would have been different. DT's premiere wouldn't have had the sale buzz though. I for one am one of the people glad we got him back. I think the differences between FR Tommy and DT Oliver are more just the fact they were done by largely different production teams. But they both are still very much in continuity.

Why would anyone wish we got Payne over Oliver?

DinoThunder wouldn't be the same without Oliver. I'm not saying it needed to be all about Tommy. And in reality, plenty of other characters got focused.

personally I don't think things would've been that different we just wouldn't have the Tommy character in the show so there would've been no preferences to his past.

exactly it was part of the agreement. It was JDF's decision and had nothing to do with Disney or how much money they were paying him.

no doubt about that and I'm definitely glad he came back it worked out good not to mention I thought they did the best they could with the video diary and I thought "Fighting Spirit" was pretty good minus the errors with the Green Ranger's costume

Its understandable, since they had to remake the suit from scratch. Which is a pretty commendable effort for them.

I don't see how you can complain about them bringing Tommy back. When so many people demanded references to continuity for years before it. Aside from "Forever Red", it was the most the series did to honor it's past in several seasons.

It was also coming off a time when people were put off by the production change and move to new zealand. And all the growing pains that entailed. People also didn't like the Urban Legend comment from Tori. DT showed everyone that Power Rangers was still connected.

They went in the wrong direction and should have continued Ninja Storm as its own series. Instead of trying to re-live the glory of a past character who peaked a decade prior. People would have rather have had Shane ,Tori, and Dustin back.

On the contrary, I couldn't wait for them to be written off the show or to complete their runs . They were annoying and stupid. The worst Rangers ever.

exactly they took her comment too literally it was just good nature ribbing that friends do with 1 another

I never believed PR was an urban legend in Ninja Storm

Tommy was for the best. Payne may habe been ok. But he wouldn't have been the same as Tommy. I think the series needed the jolt of continuity after all the changes under Disney and its more standalone nature after Space/Galaxy.
