R Rated Power Rangers Reboot Series?
 

Adi Shankar is working on the concept for a R rated Power Rangers series that retells MMPR as an R rated series. He plans to combine elements of Dragon Ball Z and get away from the monster of the week formula. Right now the idea is in the concept phase and needs to be sold to a distributor. Shanlar is is currently the showrunner of the Castlevania TV series.

(I am not so sure what to make of this. Since I don't understand he could be pitching this without Saban Brands or if they would even be interested in this. Plus you have to be weary of fake news. It does interest me if this is legit. Something like this could work on Netflix like the article mentions. I would think it would cost some money.)

No! Just No! Power Rangers is a kids show and should.never be rated R.

I know its bad enough the new movie look s "dark and mature". We don't need rated R Power Rangers. Parents will get mad if they confuse it with the regular show.

This has me excited! I love darker PR. I don't mind them going rated R if its something separate from the regular series.

This would be amazing. Since I assume it would actually be good. PR should have grew up and not backtracked like they did . Now I know the regular show never would have went Rated R. But a new adult series could.

This smells like a rat. I can't see it ever happening. Saban Brands would never want to be associated with something like this. The new movie isn't even going that far. Its not the right direction to go. Power Rangers s is a bad tv show that we take seriously. Something like this would feel like a whole new show.

I would welcome something like this. Striving for an R rating seems far fetched but PG 13 would work.

Some more info. I missed that the article mentioned it was a plan for an animated series. Which the Castlevania Series currently is. Also a Den of Geek article points out that Adi Shanker is the one who produced the Power/Rangers fan film.

Humm this makes more sense now. If it ends up a cartoon on Netflix I don't see how it will hurt things. Of course it also may never get produced.

I wonder if Toei would even allow this? Since they strongly opposed an animated series with Disney .

Thats because they tried to replace live action with animated. Toei won't care as long as their Sentai is still adapted with the regular series.

It would have to be a .cartoon since Saban would be too cheap to do live action series without Sentai Footage.

Saban Brands is too smart to do this. Letting Lionsgate do a more serious movie is one thing. But going rated R is a big black on the bland.

I just can't see Saban given up that kind of control to an outside. I don't care if he worked on that fan film. This is different. Saban is going to be creatively involved in Power Rangers the most out of anyone. And this type of thing doesn't fit his vision.

Saban is more of a business man. And even he has taken a backseat in the role of owner at least publicly. Since he has a President running Saban Brands for him. Whatever his invovlement is, he isn't the show-runner or really involved in the writing process at all. It would be Saban Brands the company stopping this if anybody.

i doubt this guy is able to do this. Doing Power/Rangers was one thing. But this is clearly not a fan film and would require Saban Brands to sign off. How often does someone shop a show they don't own without working with the brand owners?

Admittedly, its a long shot for this to become a reality. It is probably a mistake to make this public before talking to Saban Brands privately.
