What is the in universe reason for why Tommy had a Dragon Shield?

there isn't one I think it's just more of a protective mechanism since he doesn't have any decent weaponry sure he could use the Dragon Dagger as a Sword but it's not going to be that effective as one because of its size

Perhaps Rita tampered with the powers. She could have even used Lokar to upgrade the powers.

It almost feels like Tommy's Powers were part of another group of powers. But that doesn't seem likely.

Sixth Rangers often do look different than the main team. So its not really a big shock Tommy has a shield to make him stand out. Ninjor probably gave the powers a little extra humph!

The Dragon Dagger was not originally associated with the Green Coin. The armor being his special weapon is probably the right idea.

I always thought the White Ranger Shield was cooler. I wish Tommy was able to transfer that shield to other Rangers too.

yea 6th Rangers are generally different just because.

Green Ranger doesn't have a good reason but White Ranger's source came from elsewhere and Trey became the Gold Ranger and while the source was identical to the Rangers' Zeo Crystal source of power it probably was something else that he was using to mimic the source since he didn't have the Zeo Crystal.

I could see a Boom Comic exploring the reason why the Green Ranger has a shield. And how Rita got the coin in the first place. This would all be canon if they did that.

It's always nice to see the Green and White Rangers without their shields on, but the shields do kinda make the characters what they are. Same with the Gold Zeo Ranger. It all adds to the mystery and legend, etc.

What always bothered me was the flimsy cloth shield the Green Ranger had in MMPR, the Zyuranger one looked great, i know Saban does things on the cheap but you'd have thought they could have done a better job!

Extra Rangers usually look different. It probably has something to do with their powers being made later.

I think Toei wanted to have the Sixth Rangers stand out and that carried over into PR.
