Sentai/Saban question

How come there was no legal battle between the sentai creators and
Saban enterprises? I ask because the characters in Zyurangers and
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers look exactly like each other in MMPR and
Sentai. How come I never heard of a lawsuit regarding this? Is this
not a trademark violation?

This is because they did not give up a big retainer for the attorneys

Re: Sentai/Saban question

Because Saban did not steal the footage, they bought it. And they had the
concent of Toei, Ltd to use it. Why would Toei sue if they were paid for
the footage?
Now, I don't know the specifics on this next point, but Saban tried to
start MMPR with the previous year's "Jetman", but I read somewhere that the
negotiations either fell through, or there was some sort of delay involved.
So, instead, they started with "ZyuRanger" instead.

You're joking, right? No one could be this stupid.

I think Saban purchased the rights or something like that to air them in the
US. He purchased the footage, etc.

Saban (and now Disney) paid Toei a licensing fee to use the footage,
likenesses, etc.

Re: Sentai/Saban question

Saban/Disney paid for the international publishing rights (anywhere outside
of Japan) to Toei's Super Sentai TV
series. With these rights, they could distribute it any way they want,
either subbed/English dubbed (e.g. Ultraman Tiga,
the English dubbed Abaranger epsiode in that one episode of Power Rangers
Dino Thunder),
or adapt the show (e.g. Power Rangers, Super Human Samurai Syber Squad).
As we all know, Saban/Disney chose the latter.

As an aside, even Hong Kong television, which shows a lot Japanese shows,
end up showing Power Rangers, not Super Sentai,
because even though it would've been easier for HK to get the Super Sentai
show from Toei,
Saban/Disney holds the rights to these shows outside of Japan, so what
Saban/Disney offer is what they
get, and what they offer is Power Rangers.

Absolute business genius, that Haim Saban.
