Didn't really think of the Dino Gems. Its been awhile. But I would assume another unrelated Asteriod it the Earth. Who knows the Asteriod could have hit later and somehow absorbed latent dinosuar energy. Its unclear how the Dino Gems got their powers besides hitting the Earth.
