The Power Rangers are no more then a live version of the cartoon called VOLTRON from the early 1980's.

Power Rangers is based of a show from Japan called Super Sentai. which predates voltron ( the japenese series dubbed into Voltron is owned by the same company.

While Voltron and Power Rangers are similar in concept, Power Rangers actually is adapted from a Sentai series that first started all the way back in 1975 by a Japanese company called Toei.

However Voltron was a joint venture between Toei's Animation department as well as Worlds Events Productions.

Voltron used footage from the 81-82 series caled "Beast King GoLion" as well as the 82-83 series which was called "Armored Fleet Dairugger XV."
